Mill Run was originally purchased by four families for farming. The property was eventually subdivided and developed in 1979 and the roads and bridge were built by the developers.
Mill Run was featured in a front-page article in the Chattanooga News-Free Press in 1979. The article outlined the beginning of Mill Run and how important it was to the development of Ooltewah almost 40 years ago. At the time, there was one stoplight, a Red Food Store and a red barn with horses in the pasture where Life Care now stands. There have been so many changes in Ooltewah and we are proud that Mill Run remains a desirable community in a great location!
"Leaders Aid Opening of Big Subdivision" as published on May 29, 1979
"Local business and governmental leaders gathered today in Ooltewah to help developers of Mill Run Subdivision kick off grand opening ceremonies of what is Hamilton county's newest residential subdivision. Hamilton County Executive Dalton Roberts, county Commissioners Jack Mayfield and Rob Long and Sheriff H.Q. Evatt joined officials of Monarch Development Corp., developer of the subdivision, for the opening festivities. Also attending were bank executive, families of those involved with the project, Glenn Gatlin, head of G.F. Gatlin Surveying Co., which did the design work, Roy McDonald, publisher of the Chattanooga News Free Press; Frank McDonald, President of the News-Free Press, and T.L. Elton, an official of the newspaper. Raymond Stakely, president of Monarch Development officiated at the ceremonies.
Other officials of Monarch who attended were Tommy White and Robert Stakely, Vice Presidents, and Art Whetstone, Secretary-Treasurer. Mill Run, whose entrance is off Snow Hill Road, only three-tenths of a mile from I-75's Ooltewah exchange, covers 170 acres of terrain that has Wolftever Creek meandering along the property and bordering much of it. There will be 140 residential building lots, and Raymond Stakely has previously stated that the planned unit development will represent an investment of some $17 million once completed.
Mill Run includes a covered bridge near the entrance, a spacious clubhouse, swimming pool, tennis courts and 25 acres of community property that will feature two lakes with fishing piers, jogging trails and picnic areas. The amenities are substantially completed, Raymond Stakely said, noting that construction has been going on at Mill Run for about a year and a half.“
